B17 Flying Fortress at Ben Edra Skye

In the Summer of 1999 Flash and myself first looked for this B17 (Heroic Failures). Finally, more than nine years later, I returned to Skye to look for the crash site coming in from the correct side of the mountain this time! A far more successful outcome was the result even if I did have to trudge for miles through a peat bog in the rain! I was surprised that more wreckage didn't remain considering how remote the site was. This plane crashed 3rd March 1945 with the loss of all crew onboard.

Myself with the biggest piece of "skin" from the B17 left at the site, hard to tell exactly where this might have come from.

Myself examining possibly part of the wing structure.

Here's an easier one! Myself posing with a propeller stub with part of a propeller blade still in situ.

Here's what I believe to be one of the engine superchargers, one of a few which litter the site.

One of the two remaining engines that I located at the site, as can be seen a rock slide has partially covered it.

The other engine almost completely buried under another rock slide as Ben Edra slowly claims the remaining aircraft wreckage.
